Jo went to Jamie's party on Saturday. It was fancy dress and he went as Santa's little helper.
On the school front, his reading is coming along really well and he seems to enjoy it too.

Cara at Vazon with big boots
She needs smaller boots, they're a bit loose and they fall off quite a lot. Not what you want on a cold beach.
She's saying alot more now, but more cruicially there are more words we can understand. Here's a selection:
Plane
More
Shoes
Please (always good to get that one)
Apple juice

Jo's writing is really coming along, and he's recently been given a book to read - his first. He's doing really well.

Jo on the rocks
At Petit Port, rock climbing and generally having a nice time, even though, as he admitted himself, it might be a bit cold for swimming.

My brother is a tiger
Jonah made a tiger mask at achool yesterday. All the kids came out to meet mums / dads wearing theirs - quite a sight!
The new and the old
We picked up our new car this morning. It's a Toyota Prius - a hybrid car. That means it runs off an electric motor whenever it can (low speeds and when not accelerating too fast). It charges up its own battery when it uses the petrol motor and when it brakes.
Our old faithful Peugeot is now pretending to be a van for various kayaking, kitesurfing types of activities.

Jo's homework
Jo's had to do some homework today, as you can see it's the letter "i". First of many, I'm afraid. It bodes well that he appears to be so studious.

Meriel Kayaking in Jersey
I've just been again for another weekend - but this picture is from April. This is what's known in the trade as 'rockhopping'.

Prius
We test drove a new car today, a Toyota Prius - Hybrid Petrol/electric. Reckon we'll get one in a couple of weeks. It's a really strange experience to drive because it only uses the electric motor until it gets to around 20-25 mph.
Needless to say it was awesome.

Wake-up boarding
After a late night working (yes that still happens sometimes) Meriel needed to wake up. Luckily it was perfect conditions for wake-up boarding - I mean wakeboarding.
Meriel's 1st ever time - and successfully up and running.
Lenny's 4th time - carving and jumping.
The conditions were perfect.
Wow! that was fun (sorry no photos of the actual wakeboarding!)

The proof
Even though you can't actually see the kite - this is a kind of proof that Lenny is up and running with his kitesurfing.

Return to Jaonnet
After a 5 year reluctant absence we returned to Jaonnet during Imogen and Georges stay. Even though it's our favourite beach it's not easy to get to with small children. Jonah has sadly still not been as he was at school.
We swam and snorkelled before returning home to prepare for an evening's kayaking.

The tractor watchers
It's certainly worth commenting (if only so tht we can look back and remember) that since Cara has been walking, Jo and her play together with increasing frequency. It's really nice.
Coffee break
We are back to Thursday coffe mornings after a short break, although there are hardly any coffee drinkers these days at these sorts of things. Perhaps children are sleeping longer and parents don't need the same stimuli to keep themselves going.
The cofee morning thing in itself isn't so worthy of note, but the picture is.

Le Voi de Travaille
Had a lovely long weekend visit from Helen, Kirk, Finlay and Alice. Jo and Fin played constantly for five days and were almost like one child who runs around itself and occasionally loses itself in contradictory circles.

Walking to Fermain
One of the benefits of living on the Jerbourg Peninsula is the walking. We're surrounded by clifs and the walks down to the beaches are gorgeous. I'm carrying Cara back from Fermain Bay where Jo immediately ran off into the water - shame we hadn't packed for swimming.

Jo - no stabilisers
Meriel took the stabilisers off Jo's bike yesterday and he had a few brief seconds of unsupported, two-wheeled riding.
Now all he needs to do is keep pedaling, look where he's going, don't stop pedaling, look where he's going, DON'T STOP PEDALING!

Cara's wet teddy
Cara dropped her teddy in the bath (we'll never know why). When she saw it on the washing line she was a bit distraught - she does love teddy.

Jonah's photos
Jonah got a camera for his birthday. He now has his own Flickr account. He'll be choosing HIS favourites to put up there.

New Kayak
We decided YES.
Meriel went to Jersey yesterday for a kayaking trip and came back with this. It's a sit on top kayak (Islander Hula for those who care) which we can take to the beach and anyone can use. It's easy to paddle about but can also surf.
We took it to Vazon today and tried it in the small surf - it was fun:-) Even Jonah got to have a go. Modelled in this picture by Drew.

Try out Kayak day - Grand Rocques
Today we helped out at a try out day for people who want to go kayaking. The sun shone all day and there was an excellent turn out (I reckon about 60 or 70 people got to have a go). Even Lenny got to go in a kayak.
We're very temped to buy a sit on top kayak so that Lenny and anyone who visits can get out on the water (My kayak is very customised to my size). Even Jonah could have a go. Watch this space to see what we decide!

Jonah is 4
Although he still had to go to school today.
He's got a camera from his mum and dad and a tractor from his Grandma.
It's going to be a busy day.

Boogie!
Cara can now walk a decent distance (I think 58 steps is the record so far). She's also cornering quite well, which was a problem for her in the early days of walking. Now she just needs somewhere to walk to.

Cara's walking
It happened on the 11th May, I think. So we didn't get it on camera (although looking at the event through an LCD screen is highly overrated and can't really be classed as watching the actual thing), but Cara really walked. She didn't even seem to notice it, it was just a way to get from A to B without having to go through the hassle of getting down, crawling and getting up again. Of course we couldn't get her to do it again and it's been two days now without a repeat performance.

Cara, standing again
We haven't see a huge amount of the standing recently, but it's getting slowly more frequent. Ok, so to be honest we rigged the last (and first) image of Cara standing, but that was only because she had been standing before we got the camera out and wouldn't do it again - it was "representative" of her first efforts. This is the real deal as is shown by the face.
Nook
Good to have the cats back living with us again. They're clearly enjoying being around us - shame it's only until the building works start on the house.

Cara on the phone
After speaking to Catherine on the phone, jonah and Cara started playing with it. This is a picture of Cara copying us, although when there is really someone at the other end, she just turns her head to the earpiece to see what's making the noise - which slightly defeats the object of using the handset.

Jo's Bike
Jo is really into his bike and is currently enjoying riding around and around and around the Saint's View carpark (which isn't that big). Still, keeps him out of trouble.

Jonah's portraits of Spencer from Balamory
His drawings are starting to be recognisable. It's interesting to see that most body parts are correctly positioned except for the arms which come out of the sides of the head.
Cara's standing
Cara stood up (in fact it was yesterday), she crawled up on my leg and let go. It must have been for a while, because I had time to shout "Meriel, Meriel, Meriel, Meriel, Meriel, Meriel, quick, quick, quick, come here, come here" and she did and she saw - I make that about five seconds. Cara was naturally oblivious to her achievments.

L'Ancresse age illustrator
Good Friday - a walk up to the rifle range at L'Ancresse (no shooting today). Couldn't resist lining the kids up against their (approximate)ages and stocking up on birthday invitation materials.
Meriel's Birthday
Me, Jonah & Cara made this card for Meriel for her thirty-somethingth Birthday - which was nice.

But deperately wanting to walk...
Lots of sore heads at the moment. Cara is determined to stand up... but hasn't really got the balance yet. So she topples a lot. Getting better by the day though - she's just started 'cruising' which is apparently walking along things whilst holding on.

Now Cara's got chicken pox
Cara's had chicken pox for four days now, so it should be coming to an end soon.
Anyway, the sun's shining and we were on the beach for a walk and loving it - it's so much like summer (apart from the jackets & hats) and we can't wait for that.

Jonah's got chicken pox
We deliberately exposed Jonah to chicken pox about 18 days ago. Sure enough he started getting some spots yesterday morning. So far he seems entirely unaffected apart from the spots. We're working on keeping him distracted from the itching. Chocolate cake seemed like a good start. No sign of any spots on Cara yet.
